Time to shimmy! February 21,2008 The dance season is upon us, and we are excited about it! In February, Ban-dal welcomed a 4th member (again) to join in on the madness! Sarah has been an Egyptian Belly Dancer for the last 8 years and has moved over to the dark side (mwhahaha). Speaking of dark side, Ban-dal made an attempt at finding our "darker roots" by performing at Gothla US: the Conjuring, on February 9th. (Attempt it the operative word!) We still have the MECDA I.E.'s "Atomic Raq-it" on March 2nd-- we are closing the show at 5:45pm! Please come out an enjoy an awesome 50s/60s themed belly dance event! And, don't forget to join us on March 30th at the Coffee Haven in Long Beach for the Sunday Shimmy Showcase- cost is $FREE$-- come out and buy some coffee and enjoy a great dance show! P.S. What else is new?? Ban-dal performed at the Festival of the Rose (SCA event for the Queen) and danced to ABBA's "Dancing Queen!" For amusement, please check this out online on youtube, along with some improv fun... enjoy! __________________________________________________________________________ As usual, Ban-dal has been crazy busy! January 2008 In November, Ban-dal competed in two categories in the Hips of Fury Alternative Belly Dance Competition, hosted by Faizeh Productions. We competed for Ultimate Troupe and in the "007 Spy Games" themed category, "Faizeh's Choice." Ban-dal won Faizeh's Choice with our fast paced, gun slinging choreography to "Spy Hunter," The Peter Gunn Theme. WE HAD A BLAST! (Not to mention, we got to be 80s rockers to Billy Idol in the same weekend... we love fusion!) 2008 is promising to be another exciting and fast paced year! We have lots of exciting things planned included Gothla US (February) and a troupe showcase at the Sunday Shimmy Showcase at the Coffee Haven in March! (Long Beach)...and of course--much, much more! | June, 2008 Changes are a happening!!! First off, this year has been really wonderful so far, and we were really excited about being apart of Tribal Caravan in April, this year! We had a wonderful time!! Some big things we are doing this summer: Tribal-Rendezvous Pre-Party, Fri. July 25! Ban-dal is joining other fabulous troupes such as Hiplash and Tsingani to kick off this new tribal festival in Southern California! Please come out and support us, and join in on the fun! Also..... We are traveling to Tempe, AZ to join NATIUM World Dance for... Bohemian Caberet- Belly Dance Cirque! Saturday, August 16th at 9:00pm This is going to be a fantastic show of unconventional belly dance styles from all over the West Coast, and will not only be awesome but all proceeds are going to an extremely worthy cause--- the Arizona Animal Welfare League. It's going to be fun-- don't miss it! In addition to all of our upcoming performances, we have some other changes to make you aware of... Due to personal reasons, Ban-dal's director, Abby is relocating to Arizona on August 1st. What this means for Ban-dal?? Ban-dal is going to be performing-- you can't get rid of us that easily! However, after this summer you may be seeing a little less of us.... for now! Back to the studios for more technique work, and to cook up some new ideas! New classes are available in the OC!
